With the bill S1565 passed, New Jersey State has been able to overcome yet another hurdle, which they had in the race for legalizing of online betting in the state. The most recent vote at the NJ Senate had the bill passed by large majority.
33 voted for the bill, whereas only 3 showed discontent against the restart of internet gambling in the state. Now, the vote awaits approval from Chris Christie, Governor of the garden state. He has been, for long, voicing his concerns against the constitutionality of this proposal.
Raymond Lesniak, Senator and the Bill Sponsor, said, “Once we give the scope to casino for tapping into the growing trend of online wagering, it is going to allow the state to be in the forefront of this lucrative market. At the same time, it will provide our casino with the competitive edge, which they dearly need in this economic climate.”
He believes that Atlantic City is badly in need of revenue generated from online casinos, as there has been rapid decline in the profit coming from the gambling industry in the recent past.
Currently, Delaware and Nevada have passed their online gambling bills. However, they are yet to implement the process, which could see legal internet gambling. New Jersey has been in a persistent struggle for getting the bill in. However, they have now made sure that the Constitutional issue of the state is resolved, as they have restricted the internet gambling to only Atlantic City at this moment.
